Genesis GV70 Luxury SUV

Harmony on Wheels, Genesis GV70

In a world where luxury SUVs seem to multiply by the day, the Genesis GV70 is a testament to what happens when a brand dares to forge its path rather than following established conventions. The newly redesigned 2026 Genesis GV70 doesn’t merely attempt to match its European rivals it creates its definition of luxury that speaks with a distinctly Korean accent, prioritizing both driver enjoyment and passenger comfort in equal measure.

As Genesis’s bestselling model, accounting for more than 30% of the brand’s sales in North America, the GV70 has been instrumental in establishing the still-young luxury brand as a legitimate contender in the premium market. With over 85,000 GV70s welcomed into North American families since its 2021 introduction, this midsize luxury SUV has struck a chord with discerning buyers seeking something beyond German and American options.

The 2026 refresh brings subtle yet meaningful enhancements to an exceptionally well-executed package. What immediately captures your attention is the GV70’s striking appearance and the thoughtfulness behind every design decision and feature.

EXTERIOR DESIGN
The exterior design of the Genesis GV70 stands in what Genesis calls “Athletic Elegance,” a design philosophy that has become the brand’s signature under the guidance of Chief Design Officer Luc Donckerwolke and exterior design lead Ki-Euk Kim. What sets Genesis apart is how it has resisted the temptation to mimic established European design languages, instead creating a fresh, distinctive, and timeless aesthetic.

The front fascia of the redesigned 2026 model maintains the brand’s iconic crest grille but now features an enhanced dual-weave mesh texture that adds depth and sophistication. This is flanked by the now-signature two-line headlamps, upgraded with micro lens array (MLA) technology that provides improved illumination and a more refined appearance. The front end’s enhanced skid plate design creates a more robust stance, complemented by extended air intake grilles that give the GV70 a uniquely sporty yet elegant appearance.

Moving along the profile, the GV70’s athletic character line sweeps upward from the front fenders to the rear, creating a sense of motion even at a standstill. The newly redesigned 19-inch and 21-inch wheel options (depending on trim level) fill the wheel arches perfectly, grounding the vehicle with a confident stance. The sloping roofline might suggest a compromise in interior space, but Genesis has maintained excellent headroom while creating one of the more visually dynamic profiles in the segment.

The redesigned rear fascia continues the two-line lighting concept with taillights that mirror the headlamps’ horizontal design. New trapezoidal exhaust finishers integrate seamlessly into the enhanced rear diffuser, completing the GV70’s balanced proportions. The color palette expanded for 2026, with Ceres Blue (inspired by the dwarf planet) and Bering Blue (a subtle metallic color that blends cool blue and gray tones reminiscent of the icy Bering Sea).

What’s impressive about the GV70’s design is how it projects a strong presence without resorting to hood intakes or aggressive styling cues. The proportions feel just right substantial enough to command respect on the road, yet not so massive as to feel unwieldy in urban environments. Visibility from the driver’s seat is excellent, with well-positioned pillars that minimize blind spots. I think it makes a statement without shouting that the GV70’s exterior design strikes the right balance of sophistication and distinction.

INTERIOR QUALITY & SPACE
Once you get inside the 2026 Genesis GV70, you’re immediately transported into a high-quality space.  The first thing that captures your attention is the all-new 27-inch OLED display that spans nearly two-thirds of the dashboard. It integrates the gauge cluster and infotainment system into a single, expansive horizontal layout. The display’s crisp resolution and thoughtful interface design exemplify Genesis’s approach to technology: advanced, but not intimidating. I like the material quality and attention to detail. The available Nappa leather upholstery with its quilted stitching pattern feels sumptuous to the touch, rivaling (and sometimes exceeding) what you’ll find in vehicles costing substantially more. The new Ultramarine Blue interior option with orange contrast stitching including orange seatbelts offers a bold alternative to the more traditional color schemes in most cars.

The cabin architecture follows Genesis’s “Beauty of White Space” design principle, a Korean-inspired approach that values elegant simplicity over cluttered ornamentation. Physical controls are thoughtfully placed and have a satisfying tactile quality. In contrast, the touch panels for climate and shortcut controls are better integrated into the dash and center console than in previous iterations.

The front seats provide excellent support with multiple adjustment points, including the driver’s power cushion extension, bolster, and Ergo Motion functions in higher trims. Rear passengers enjoy plenty of legroom and headroom despite the sloping roofline, and the rear seats can be heated in the top-tier Sport Prestige model.

Cargo capacity remains ample for a family of four’s weekend luggage or a substantial grocery run. The 60/40 split-folding rear seats allow for flexible configurations when hauling larger items. Thoughtful touches abound, like the Power Hands-Free Smart Liftgate that opens automatically when you stand behind the vehicle with the key in your pocket, particularly useful when your hands are full with packages.

Speaking to engineers, I found the cabin isolation system impressive.  It incorporates enhanced sound insulation and an electronic noise-canceling system through seven microphones and four speakers that effectively filter out road and wind noise on all but the coarsest surfaces. The interior remains remarkably serene at highway speeds around 75 mph, allowing for easy conversation or appreciation of the available 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium audio system with Beosonic technology. It does make a difference, making your journey a pleasure.

TECHNOLOGY & FEATURES
The Genesis GV70 arrives with a comprehensive suite of technology features. The new 27-inch OLED display is dominating the dashboard, representing a significant upgrade from the previous separate screens. This widescreen digital interface runs Genesis’s intuitive menu structure with large, easily accessible tiles that can be navigated via touch or the rotary controller in the center console. The display’s crisp graphics and responsive interface make accessing navigation, media, and vehicle settings remarkably straightforward, even for those like me who do not consider themselves tech-savvy.

The updated voice recognition system also deserves special mention for its expanded capabilities. Beyond the usual commands for navigation and phone calls, it now allows control of climate settings, windows, and various vehicle functions with natural language commands. During my drive testing, the system accurately interpreted requests like “lower the temperature to 70 degrees” or “open the driver’s window” without requiring specific phrasing or multiple attempts.

Connectivity options are comprehensive, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard across all trim levels. A wireless charging pad (relocated under the center armrest based on customer feedback) ensures your device stays powered at all times.

The Genesis Digital Key 2 feature, standard on higher trims, transforms your smartphone into a vehicle key, allowing you to lock, unlock, and start the GV70 without the physical key fob. This technology can also be temporarily shared with family members or friends, a convenient feature for families so that husband and wife can have immediate access.

Advanced driver assistance systems come standard even on the base 2.5T AWD model, including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist, and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist. Higher trims add Surround View Monitor, Blind-Spot View Monitor, and Highway Driving Assist 2, which combines adaptive cruise control with lane-centering technology. All models should get the complete package.

The Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 system, available on the top-tier Sport Prestige model, can now handle perpendicular and diagonal parking spaces in addition to parallel parking this is a valuable feature in tight urban environments where some people may find it challenging to park an SUV of this size.

If you listen to music when driving, the Bang & Olufsen audio system delivers sound with excellent spatial awareness throughout the cabin. The system’s Beosonic technology allows intuitive sound customization through a unique interface that simultaneously adjusts multiple audio parameters.

One feature that I find essential is the over-the-air update capability, which extends to the ECU. This means that the vehicle can receive infotainment updates and performance enhancements as the factory release them. Overall, I found that the tech features are all there, and the intuitive operation enhances rather than complicates the driving experience.

DRIVING EXPERIENCE
I drove it over 100 miles and congratulated the engineers because they improved the balance of comfort and engagement. It is smooth, quiet, but with the push of a button, it transforms into a fun vehicle.  My test vehicle featured the more powerful of the two available powertrains: a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 producing 375 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque. This engine delivers considerable power with remarkable refinement and builds speed with a smooth, linear surge. I expected more push under acceleration due to the twin turbos, but the engine is tuned to offer a soft and linear power curve.

The 8-speed automatic transmission, which both engines share,  deserves equal praise for its shift mapping. It holds gears appropriately during sports mode driving while remaining nearly imperceptible during relaxed cruising in the normal mode.

I  didn’t test the base 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine (300 horsepower/311 lb-ft), but I did last year’s model and found it more than adequate for everyday driving.

Something else I noticed is the ride quality, which has been notably improved for 2026, thanks to new suspension bushings and in the 3.5T models an electronically controlled suspension with road preview technology. This system uses the forward-facing cameras to scan the road ahead for imperfections. It adjusts the adaptive dampers accordingly, smoothing out potholes and broken pavement before they can upset the chassis. All I can say is wow!

The Sport Prestige model of the GV70 comes with 21-inch wheels. They look great, but I suggest sticking to the 19-inch wheel for an even more comfortable ride.  I was told that the steering has been recalibrated for 2026, and while it feels a touch heavier than before at low speeds, it offers a good, precise feel once you start increasing the speed on the highway.  When I simulated some emergency stopping situations,  the brakes remained composed and stable, with minimal dive and good straight-line tracking.

Several drive modes help on Snow, Mud, and Sand terrain in case of weather issues when traveling, providing additional versatility.

The fuel economy of the V6 model is rated at 21 mpg combined (19 city/24 highway), which is the weak point for the car. Even the four-cylinder at 22 mpg combined (21 city/26 highway) has room for improvement.

VALUE PROPOSITION
The 2026 Genesis GV70, as I see it, presents a compelling value proposition in the highly competitive luxury segment. It offers features, performance, and quality that substantially exceed vehicle costs.

Starting at $47,985 for the base 2.5T AWD model (plus $1,450 destination charge), the GV70 comes generously equipped with standard features that would be costly options on many competitors. Moving to the 2.5T Select AWD ($50,885) adds desirable features like a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, and power-folding mirrors with Genesis logo lamps. The 2.5T Advanced AWD ($55,435) introduces leather seating surfaces, ventilated front seats, and the Bang & Olufsen premium audio system. For the luxury experience, the 3.5T Sport Prestige AWD ($70,095) includes virtually every available feature, including Nappa leather upholstery, a head-up display, Remote Smart Parking Assist 2, and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential.

Compared to key competitors like the BMW X3, Audi Q5, and Lexus NX, the GV70 typically offers more standard equipment at each price point. The value equation becomes even more favorable when considering Genesis’s industry-leading warranty coverage: a 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, and 3 years/36,000 miles of complimentary scheduled maintenance.

Long-term ownership costs also favor the GV70, with independent research indicating maintenance and repair expenses averaging around $9,543 over the first 10 years, below the luxury SUV segment average. Reliability data for Genesis vehicles has been generally positive, with fewer reported issues than other established luxury brands.

Residual values for Genesis models have been steadily improving as the brand establishes itself in the marketplace, though they still lag behind some of the more established German competitors. However, this gap narrows each model year as Genesis strengthens its reputation.

The GV70 is not just an emotional choice but also a rational one.

CONCLUSION
The 2026 Genesis GV70 represents the continued evolution of what was already a perfect luxury SUV. Through thoughtful refinements rather than radical reinvention, Genesis has addressed the few shortcomings of the previous model. This new GV70 suits discerning families who value quality craftsmanship, and distinctive design. It’s perfect for those who want to surpass the predictable German and Japanese luxury options without sacrificing prestige or capability. The GV70 appeals to professionals who appreciate attention to detail and want their vehicle choice to reflect their taste rather than simply broadcasting status.

The interior isn’t just luxurious it’s thoughtfully designed for everyday usability. The technology isn’t just advanced it’s intuitive and genuinely helpful. And the driving experience isn’t just comfortable it’s genuinely satisfying.

My final impression of the 2026 Genesis GV70 is that it continues to represent the vanguard of a new approach to luxury, one where exceptional quality and distinctive character take precedence over heritage and badge recognition. For those willing to look beyond established luxury nameplates, the GV70 will reward you with an ownership experience that feels a bit more personal.

If you’re in the market for a luxury midsize SUV, I encourage you to visit your local Genesis retailer for a test drive. The GV70 deserves to be experienced firsthand to appreciate what Genesis has accomplished truly. And yes, the espresso in their showrooms is excellent a fitting complement to an automotive experience that satisfies multiple levels.
