The Baked Potato is a legendary jazz club on Cahuenga Blvd. in Studio City. It first opened its doors in 1970 and, since then, has been attracting top musicians to perform. Don Randi, a jazz pianist himself, continues to play with his music group as a cover band. But there are other musicians every night. Randi played with Nancy Sinatra and the Beach Boys so he knows how to spot top talent.

As a regular patron since 1979, I can attest that the club’s ambiance, menu, and quality of musicians have remained unchanged. I have had the pleasure of watching internationally acclaimed musicians such as Al Jareau and Abraham Laboriel join the musicians on stage and jam with them. Larry Carlton recorded his Last Nite album there in 1986.

Unfortunately, the club almost faced closure after a fire incident, but we are lucky that it has survived. It is an iconic place where the magic of LA happens. The Baked Potato has won several awards for being the best jazz club in Los Angeles.

However, it is not limited to jazz; it is also known for its fusion music, which combines jazz and rock. During a recent visit, I saw Lao Tizer perform with a smaller group than usual, yet it was an impressive show. The small stage was complete with top musicians Elliott Yamin (voice), Chieli Minucci (guitar), Munyungo Jackson (percussion), Anthony Crawford (bass), and Tony Austin (drums). Danny Janklow proved himself one of the most talented saxophone players today.
