“The Pantages Theatre was a state-of-the-art facility when it first opened in 1930 and is still magnificent today. I recently had the opportunity to attend the “Message in a Bottle” show, a dance performance featuring the music of British rock star Sting.
The show’s theme revolves around the story of a refugee family, and the high-energy ensemble danced to tunes like “King of Pain,” “Fragile,” “Roxanne,” and other hits by Sting or The Police. The dancers did a marvelous job of creating moods through their carefully choreographed moves, which helped move the story along. The sound and light work also emphasized the story, sometimes even making the audience vibrate out of their seats.
This first-class show proves that the Pantages Theatre is still our “Broadway in Los Angeles.” It was one of the best performances I have seen, and there are many other shows to enjoy this year at this magnificent and historic destination. Be sure to take the time to appreciate all of the architectural features of the building the next time you visit. The ceiling, a wonderful piece of art in itself, is something you will remember for a long time.
Every major movie star has played here at one point in their career. In the calendar for the next few months, there are shows like “Dancing with the Stars” (March 26-27), “Girl from the North Country” featuring the music of Bob Dylan (May 14-June 2), and “SuperFreak” the story of Rick James (June 6-8). It’s worth mentioning that the Pantages Theatre received a Preservation Award from the Los Angeles Conservancy for helping to rejuvenate Hollywood Boulevard and demonstrating the economic viability of restoring and reusing Los Angeles’ historic movie palaces. As an actual “Angelino,” make sure you patronize our city’s history by visiting the Pantages Theatre.”
