IONIQ

Ioniq EV for Los Angeles: The Ioniq 6 boasts a unique body style that distinguishes it from other cars. Its curved shape creates the illusion of motion, even stationary. This all-electric sedan has a coupe-like design with four doors that make it easily accessible and a sporty rear spoiler that gives it a distinctive character. It’s an excellent choice for cruising around Los Angeles quietly.

I’m not surprised I like the Ioniq 6’s performance, considering it shares the same EV architecture as the boxy SUV Ioniq 5. The Ioniq 5 is one of the best EV options available today. The base Ioniq 6 model has a powerful electric motor in its rear axle, perfect for commuting in Los Angeles. However, if you plan to travel to Big Bear, you’ll appreciate the dual-motor version that puts power on all four wheels for better grip and control. The two 77kWH motors combined produce 320HP, offering sports car-like performance, electric or not.

During my long drives in Los Angeles, spending much time in traffic, I noticed that the Ioniq 6’s spacious interior was a standout feature with all my passengers. The white upholstery creates an even more expansive atmosphere. The rear seat area provides ample space, and it’s one of the biggest I’ve tested this year, regardless of the class. The digital cluster in front of the driver is over two feet and divided into two digital screens, serving as a digital gauge cluster and an infotainment display, both of which are easy to use. All the information you need to get anywhere from Newport to Malibu is always in front of you.

The Ioniq 6 is incredibly quiet on the road and provides a comfortable ride. Even in certain sections of the 710 FWY, I was impressed with how well the Ioniq 6 responded to my commands. With the Ioniq 5 SUV and this sedan, Hyundai has demonstrated that its EV offerings outperform its European counterparts at a lower cost. The Ioniq 6 comes in four versions: the base single-motor SE, which starts at around $38,000; the SE long range, which can achieve over 350 miles on a single charge, is priced at around $40,000. The dual-motor versions cost $46,000 for the SEL and $50,000 for the Limited. The latter has a lot of tech, premium sound, and an upgraded interior. As the point of an EV is to maximize performance and use energy wisely, the SE Long Range is the best option for Los Angeles traffic.

Hyundai has worked hard to become a formidable player in the auto industry, and the Ioniq 6 shows that it has listened to consumers who wanted a car similar to a Tesla 3 but with better quality and longevity. If you’re considering switching to an EV in Los Angeles, I recommend taking the Ioniq 6 for a test drive. You won’t be disappointed.
