The area known as Mojave is the driest desert in the United States. And although it occupies almost 48,000 square miles throughout California, Nevada and Arizona it has almost 2,000 different types of plants. In 1994, a 1.5 million acre area was established as a nature reserve to preserve one of the most interesting places on the planet.
The Mojave National Preserve is just two hours from downtown Los Angeles and there you can enjoy an unusual landscape characterized by huge lava fields, sandbanks, and the densest Joshua tree forest in the world. Also you can find the ghost town Kelso and the oldest railroad line in the west that linked Los Angeles to Texas across thousands of miles of desert.
To really enjoy what this place offers, it is best to visit the park with a 4x4 vehicle. The JEEP Gladiator, in a Diesel engine version, is almost the ideal car as it offers you ample space to carry everything you need. This pick-up version has a 5 foot long box behind the cab that can fit 1,350 pounds of cargo. And with the diesel engine it can towed up to 6,500 pounds. With this truck there is need to leave the things at home. As with all JEEPS, the doors and roof can be removed and thus enjoy the entire landscape that surrounds you. The advantage of the 3-liter V6 Eco-Diesel engine is that it consumes less fuel but increases its power to 260 HP 441 pound-feet of torque (more than many V8 engines). The eight-speed transmission allows you to virtually navigate the toughest segments effortlessly. This Pick-up has the same 4x4 systems as the JEEP Wrangler, which is one of the best on the market. I clarify that this is not a work truck. It is an option for those who really enjoy national parks and camping in the most remote places.
The climate in Mojave is also unusual since not only temperature reaches 105-110 degrees, but during winters the snow covers everything as if it were a white sheet that covers its inhabitants. The lava tunnels with their surreal environment are something to be explored with friends. The sunrises are spectacular and the nights shine with the stars nearby. Undoubtedly a place to go on an adventure, enjoy with the family or find solitude.
