VW Atlas

Why should I consider buying this VW Atlas?
The 2024 Volkswagen Atlas is a compelling choice for anyone in the market for a midsize SUV. With its three-row seating, the Atlas comfortably accommodates up to seven passengers, making it an ideal vehicle for families in Los Angeles.

I drove the latest version in Downtown LA. I liked the new interior design, which elevates the Atlas into the “premium” sector. Its spacious interior accommodates more adult passengers than other similar vehicles.

I also like the Atlas’s sleek design and modern aesthetics. The elevated hood and stance give it a “solid” visual look that gives it its presence. Its original form still looks good, as it has not “aged” in styling.

What are the benefits of this VW Atlas?
The Atlas is known for its roomy interior, which provides comfortable seating for up to seven passengers. The third-row seats are particularly notable for their ample space, which is not always a given in this vehicle category. The 2024 model includes updated interior materials and finishes, enhancing the overall look and feel of the cabin. This includes higher-quality materials and more sophisticated design elements.

The 2024 Atlas includes a comprehensive suite of safety features, such as adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and automated emergency braking. All these features enhance the driving experience, and I found them not intrusive when driving around Los Angeles. This is a bigger vehicle, so the more help you get, the better the experience.

What are the negatives or potential drawbacks of a VW Atlas?
The Atlas has a state-of-the-art infotainment system with a touch-screen interface, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and multiple USB ports. I found the operation a bit cumbersome compared to other cars. It could have been more intuitive at first glance. The screen is 12 inches wide, so it helps a lot.

As with all German cars, repairs can cost a bit more than comparable American vehicles. The good thing is that the VW Atlas comes standard with Scheduled Carefree Maintenance, which includes the first two years or 20,000 miles of maintenance for free. VW claims that the Atlas has a lower maintenance cost than a Subaru or Honda. I did find out that VW also offers prepaid car care maintenance programs.

How much does a VW Atlas cost?
This Family SUV is available in five trim levels. The SE, or base model, starts at $37,900. This model is a well-equipped option right from the start.  It is powered by a 2.0 Turbo engine that generates 269HP.  A Technology package is offered as an add-on. It includes Keyless access, remote start, and wireless charging, among other things. Most important is the addition of AWD (All wheel drive). This adds about $4,000 to the price.  The SEL has a very sophisticated driver assistance package and, something I loved, a huge panoramic sunroof.  The SEL pricing is around $46,000.  I also drove the “R”  line, which is the premium model, and it includes larger wheels, sport tires that offer more grip, great Harman-Kardon audio, and a luxurious interior. Of course, that is now a $50,000 car.

The Atlas scores well in owner satisfaction thanks to its comfort, space, and modern features. I find this VW to be versatile. You can even tow up to 5000 lbs. Due to its overall utility, the VW Atlas is a worthy contender as the Angelinos’ family car.
