Featured in many films, novels, and tv shows, this is a road
where cars come alive. Over twenty miles of twisty two-lane mountain road from
Cahuenga Pass to PCH in Mailbu. The route lets you see LA and the San Fernando
Valley simultaneously. It has become one of the most famous scenic roads in the
country. And it has been Los Angeles
unofficial track for thousands of sports cars enthusiasts as well. But each car
will give you a different experience, not because of the power or speed, but
because sections of the road fit the essence of these automobiles. Here are my
2022 Top Ten Mulholland Drive cars.
Aston Martin DBS Twin
Turbo 5.2L V12 715 HP with an 8 speed Automatic $316,000: nothing sounds like a
V12. This car is pure "British." Elegant, well-poised, but with the
power to conquer the world.
McLaren 720 S 4.0L Twin Turbo V8 710 HP with a seven-speed
automatic $285,000: A car designed to be driven. More jet fighter than a car.
You feel like an integral part of it, and you are transformed into a Formula 1
driver.
Mustang Shelby 500GT
5.2L V8 Supercharged 760 HP with a Tremec 7 spd Auto Carbon Fiber
package $101,000: Nothing matches a powerful pony in its brutal delivery.
Controlling so many horses requires bravery and brains. This road will reward
you with lovely memories aboard this "tang".
Dodge Charger SRT HellCat Red Eye Widebody 6.2L V8 Supercharged with an 8 speed
Automatic $81,825: The most powerful four-door sedan on the planet lets you
take your friends while you tour this road. The sound and vibrations of the
hellcat are without match. Share the road.
Alfa Romeo Stelvio Twin Turbo 2.9L V6 505HP with an 8 speed
Automatic $76,500: This is the
unofficial "Ferrari" SUV. The sound and push of this V6 remind you of
the '80's Formula 1 cars. And it can handle like one too. It is Italian. No
need to say more.
Porsche 718 Spyder
2.5 L Turbo 4 cyl 350 HP with 6-speed manual transmission $73,400: Only
in southern California can you enjoy a convertible all year long, and no better
place to enjoy the fresh air than roaring the Malibu section with this German
sports car.
Corvette 6.2 V8 490 HP with an 8 speed Automatic $62,000:The American sportscar and Mulholland
have a long relationship. Every model has been on this road since 1954. The C8
is the best ever, and the nostalgia alone will give you a special time while
cruising down the road.
Elantra N 2.0L Turbo 4 Cyl 286 HP with a 8 speed
double-clutch auto transmission$32,000: The "N" is quickly becoming
the "touring car" among the young enthusiast. The handling and engine
sound from it are great—something you would have never expected from this
well-built sedan. The Drive has some stretches where this car really excels.
Toyota GR86 2.0 L 4
cyl 228 HP with a 6 speed manual transmission
$28,200: For the "purist," the GR86 is all about driving and
being in control of a great platform that rewards those that enjoy going
without the extra power or electronic controls.
Caterham 2.0L 4 cyl Ford Duratec 186 HP with 5 speed manual transmission $42,400:This is the best car for Mulholland Dr. No roof, inches from the asphalt, the exhaust near your ears, and handling like a go-kart. Regardless of the cost, the "Lotus-replica" gives you something no other car can. No one can take the grin off your face.
