There are a lot of nice beaches in the Los Angeles area, but Zuma beach remains the iconic California beach.
Over 2 miles of fine white color sand that gently slopes all the way to the water. The water is colder than Santa Monica but the gentle waves allow swimming and body surfing.
During the season you can see the migrating whales pass by. There is plenty of parking, restrooms, and it is also the place where you find The Sunset Restaurant. As the name implies, this locale offers the view of the setting sun on the water all 365 days of the year. Situated along Westward Beach Road is impossible to miss.
Zuma Beach is 21 miles north of Santa Monica via the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway). Not far but traffic can be slow during weekends. For the extra miles are worth every penny. Make sure to be there for sunset. The view will create a long-lasting memory.
