Jazz & The Gospel: A Celebration of African American History & Song
February 1 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm
Join Aretha Scruggs with Reedefined Productions, The Center for Restorative Justice & sponsorship by The Brehm Center for a powerful, interactive celebration of Black music and history told through the eyes of black women! This will be an educational and inspiring experience that uses music, storytelling, poetry, and visuals to honor the legacy of African American spirituals, blues, jazz, and gospel.
We are transforming JAZZ & THE GOSPEL into a Benefit Night to support our neighbors in Pasadena and Altadena impacted by the devastating LA fires. 100% of ticket donations will go directly to helping those who have lost their homes rebuild and recover. So, we kindly suggest a minimum donation of $15 to help us bless and support as many families as possible. This will be an educational and inspiring, unforgettable experience that uses music, storytelling, poetry, and visuals to honor the legacy of African American life and music.
Through three movements—Black Music as Life, Communal/Unifying, and Somebodiness/Worth—we explore how Black music has shaped and reflected Black life, joy, and resilience. This is the first, event in a series of three, that will share the untold stories of African American history, highlight local Black artists, and the profound connection between black music, black life, and spirituality.
Experience an unforgettable evening of the unique blend of music, historical narration, spoken word, and multi-media visuals in an evening that promises to uplift, educate, and inspire. Don’t miss this celebration of history, culture, and Black artistry and an opportunity to come together as a community to make a meaningful difference. Let’s stand strong for Pasadena/Altadena and show the true power of unity!
