City of L.A. studying ballot problems in council race
By: Rick Orlov, Staff Writer   |  Email: n/a

Prompted by complaints from a candidate, the Los Angeles City Clerk's Office is determining if it needs to send out notices to all registered voters in the 6th Council District asking them to double-check their sample ballots.
"We had a problem with our printer and have received three complaints from people about getting the wrong ballots," said Assistant City Clerk Holly Wolcott.

"We are going to do a quality control survey and if it is a more extensive problem, we will send out postcard notices to everyone in the district asking them to double-check their ballots. "

The first problems were disclosed by Derek Waleko, a senior government adviser, who is one of the candidates in the race to fill out the term of Tony Cardenas, who was elected to Congress.

"I'm very concerned about this and will continue to follow up on this issue to make sure everyone gets the proper ballot," Waleko said.

Wolcott said the postcards would be sent to each of the 75,600 voters registered in the district. The costs will be picked up by the printer.
